CONNECTICUT COLLEGE
Bachelor of Arts in English

1997
During my undergraduate years, I benefited from the guidance of novelist Blanche McCrary Boyd, who served as one of my instructors and as my advisor. Taking courses in contemporary dance, as well as choreographing original routines for the college's dance club, brought me untempered joy. I also tutored in the student writing centers of Connecticut College and The United States Coast Guard Academy.

Master of Education
Massachusetts Teacher Certification
2000
I decided to return to school to advance my studies, and to prepare myself for a career in education, after spending nearly a year as a project management intern at a medical publishing company. Working in a 9-to-5 corporate setting did not align with my creative nature.

Amongst working full time as a prep school English teacher and bringing my two children into the world, I took courses such as Colonial American Literature, Modern Black Writers, and The Nature of Narrative in order to enrich my expertise and to diversify my own teaching curriculum.

Dean's Fellowship
2015
Applying to Emerson College's MFA program meant finally listening to the inward call of my greatest passion: storytelling. I was unsure of how I would pay tuition if I were accepted. Ultimately, the universe came through. Emerson granted me a fellowship! For three years, I learned the elements of craft from gifted, renowned mentors and developed long-lasting connections with other writers.
