TUTORING
I provide private tutoring in English and Creative Writing for students in grades 8-12, typically working with them for 60 or 90 minutes at a time on school assignments and enrichment activities. Residents of the eastern Massachusetts area who have been turning to their search engines with the all-important request, "an English tutor near me," will be happy to know that I offer in-person sessions to clients within 30 miles of Lynnfield, MA.
For both local and out-of-state clients, I also offer fully remote sessions via Zoom. No matter how your student and I meet, we can determine a custom schedule to fit their needs. In addition, your student should feel free to reach out to me in between sessions for detailed big-picture and in-line written feedback on their working drafts. Think of this benefit as an essay editing service on demand!
COLLEGE ESSAY COACHING
Autumn can be an exciting but exhausting time for high school seniors and their parents. Please allow me to reduce your family’s stress and uncertainty by providing your student with start-to-finish college essay writing help. I will coach your student through every step of the process, from brainstorming about core values, to turning scraps of memory into vibrant anecdotes, to shaping seemingly casual observations into moving revelations. College essay coaching often involves a combination of in-person and/or Zoom meetings,
e-mail communication, and remote in-line and big-picture editing. Collaboration can also occur entirely over e-mail and Microsoft Word or Google Docs.
PRIVATE SCHOOL ESSAY COACHING
If your 8th grader is applying to private secondary schools, they will need to write one or more essays and perhaps a series of long responses. This experience might be the first time that your student has had to combine a personal narrative with persuasive tactics. I can assist them in selecting compelling topics for their essays and in striking an appropriate tone so that they showcase their maturity, thoughtfulness, and readiness for their new academic journey. Private school essay coaching will most likely consist of in-person and/or Zoom meetings, e-mail communication, and remote in-line and big-picture essay editing services.

CONSULTING AND EDITING
I offer extensive, prescriptive written feedback on multiple types of writing projects, such as school assignments, nonfiction essays and journal articles, novels, speeches, blog posts, and emails. We might use only remote in-line and big-picture editing to address your project(s), or use remote editing in conjunction with e-mail communication, phone calls, and/or Zoom calls.
In-Line vs. Big-Picture Editing
In-Line Editing
In-line editing is a specific, detailed form of editing through which I target word choice, phrasing, grammar, syntax, style, and issues of clarity in a piece of writing. I may offer the writer prescriptions for how to arrange words, organize sentences for cause-and-effect efficiency, or adjust vocabulary to achieve a particular tone. Using the Track Changes and Comment features in Microsoft Word or the Suggesting and Comment features in Google Docs, I highlight, slash, bracket, question, and add content to sections of the writer's text to identify moments that need revision.
Big-Picture Editing
Big-picture editing is a less specific form of editing through which I offer general comments on the main ideas, organizational structure, voice, energy, and grammatical integrity of a piece of writing. I may use the Comment feature in Microsoft Word or Google Docs to respond in the margins to sections of the writer's text, or simply compose a paragraph or two of overall impressions and suggestions at the end of the writing piece.
